About KimberBlossoms
Kimberblossoms is nestled in the coastal foothills of western Oregon, where long summer days, cool nights, and a temperate maritime climate create ideal conditions for growing strong, resilient dahlias. Our fields experience the rhythms of the Pacific Northwest—moist winters, mild springs, and steady summer light—conditions that shape plants built to thrive rather than coddled to perform.
Our growing practices are fully organic and grounded in soil health. We conduct annual soil testing and carefully amend to maintain rich, well-drained ground that supports steady, balanced growth. Healthy soil is the foundation of healthy plants, and every decision we make in the field starts there.
We use a rotational harvest strategy that leaves roughly one-third of our tubers in the ground each year. This approach favors durability over delicacy. Tubers are exposed to real conditions, develop naturally, and emerge vigorous and well-acclimated to the moist Pacific Northwest climate. These are not pampered plants—they are hardy, resilient stock selected over time for strength and performance.
Dahlias have been part of my life for over 30 years, with six years of commercial growing experience. I am a Master Gardener and a graduate of the Floret Flower Growers Workshop (Class of 2020). Alongside this hands-on experience, I bring a scientific approach to horticulture shaped by a background in microbiology and a career as a fish pathologist, where I designed and published molecular tools to monitor disease in wild and hatchery salmon populations.
That scientific training directly informs how Kimberblossoms is run. We maintain a strict program of isolation, monitoring, and culling for any plants showing clinical signs of virus. Observation, record-keeping, and prevention guide our decisions. The goal is simple: to offer healthy, vigorous dahlia stock grown with care, intention, and respect for both the plants and the environment they come from.
